Sam, her twin sister June, and their younger brothers, Tom and Ben, are taking a summer road trip with their parents when the unimaginable happens. Their parents are kidnapped and the four siblings end up in hiding in the mysterious underground compound, Bunker 3. It is quickly revealed that the kidnappers are actually Chimeras, dangerous wolf-like monsters with giant bat wings that can disguise themselves as humans. Now Sam and her siblings must learn all they can, including who they can trust, in order to help save their parents.

I first came across Chimera Skies one day while scrolling through my social media feed. I noticed a post from my college friend, Sharlene Healy, about her upcoming book and reached out. Sharlene was good enough to send me an ARC (Advanced Reader’s Copy) of her book and I’m so glad she did.

Chimera Skies is not my typical read. It is a young adult sci-fi with a little romance thrown in and a strong apocalyptic vibe. I’ve never been a huge fan of end-of-the-world, dystopian, romance, twinkly-vampire type books. That being said, this book was an unexpected surprise. Sharlene does an excellent job of keeping you on your toes throughout the book. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, Sharlene would throw in another twist.

One word of warning: DON’T READ THIS BOOK LATE AT NIGHT!

One night, as I sat up late reading on my phone with my husband snoozing next to me in bed, I came to a particularly intense passage when, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a shadow move across the room. Turns out it was just my dog, Scout, switching her sleeping position, but still…

Chimera Skies is currently available for pre-order on Amazon and releases on May 27th. If you are looking for an intense, creative adventure then this book is for you.
