Will he see his shadow? Will we have six more weeks of winter? It’s February 2 and that means that Punxsutawney Phil is going to make his annual prediction.
Groundhog’s Day can sometimes seem the same year after year (just ask Bill Murray), but with this Groundhog’s Day Simple STEM Activity, you can shake things up a little.
This Simple STEM project is designed for children Pre-K or Kindergarten age, but is fun for older kids as well.
You’ll need:
- Scissors
- Glue
- Crayons
- A Flashlight
- A Printed Copy of the Download (I recommend using cardstock, but regular paper will work just fine.)
First have your child color their groundhog.
Then, help your child cut along the dotted lines and around their groundhog. Fold along the solid lines, following the diagram on your printout. Next, glue your groundhog in place.
Finally, grab your flashlight and have fun making a shadow that’s sure to scare your groundhog back into his burrow. Have your child experiment with shining their light from different angles. Help them notice how the shadow changes. And most importantly have fun!
